TED in India

24Nov09

I am ardent fan of TED.com and have watched awesome speeches/ideas shared by intellectuals from around the world. I have always liked the theme of  TED which is ‘Ideas Worth Sharing’.  I stumbled upon TED when I was trying to understand more about Paul Collier. I saw an outstanding speech by this great scholar on ‘why the poor countries are always poor’ as a supplemental content when I was reading his book.

Now the same TED is conducting its Indian chapter at the Infy campus at Mysore. Watched the talk by management guru Deuvdutt pattnaik which was a brilliant thought on East Mythology Vs Western Mythology and how we can understand two different cultures using the mythology. I was quite surprised that he is leading the initiative for Big Bazaar’s customer experience improvement.

Another impressive talk was by the MIT geek who is working on an all new digital experience called ‘SixthSense’. This guy was also mentioned by Fareed Zakaria in CNN’s GPS programme as well. The technology Pranav Mistry was demonstrating was interesting where he has used easily available gadgets to give whole new thoughts on the way we interact with the everyday objects.  We need to wait and see how his idea is getting a shape for everyday usage.
